Laminate flooring can even be installed over existing flooring, which can save time as well as the cost of removing old flooring. However, laminate flooring often feels too hard on the feet, cannot be finished or stained – meaning that the owner is stuck with what they choose and will have to entirely replace the floor if they change their mind – and also results in a lower resale value for a home than traditional hardwoods.
Tile flooring includes concrete or cement, ceramic tiles, glass tiles, and natural stone products among many others. Due to the numerous varieties of tile, there is an incredibly large price range, from 60 cents per square foot, to hundreds of dollars, or even $100,000 per square foot. The many options of tile allow a person to choose a cost and style that best fits their needs. Tile is also easy to maintain, clean, and is suitable for all locations. However, without heating, tile can be cold in the winter. It also does not dampen sound, can be slippery when wet, can break if heavy objects are dropped on them, and cannot easily be repaired. Tile installation is also difficult, and installation costs can be more expensive than the cost of the materials.
Building a home:
When building a home, using building plans and visiting different homes as a reference can help a person to gain a better understanding of what square footages work for their preferences.
The cost of building a home varies largely based on a number of factors, including materials, the type of foundation, the pitch of the roof, and many other characteristics that are not necessarily directly related to the size of the house. Unlike the cost per square foot of installing flooring, which can be estimated based on material, quality, and installation costs, the multitude of factors involved in building a house makes it more difficult to estimate cost per square foot. As such, cost per square foot is often estimated based on averages, and depending on a person’s specific project, it may not be an accurate estimate of the cost. Instead, it may be more helpful to get an estimate from a builder based on some given specifications, and divide that estimate by the number of square feet the house will occupy.

How To Measure Square Footage Of A House In 3 Steps
To calculate the square feet of a house, you will need to determine each room’s area and add it together. It sounds easy, right? We’re going to try to keep it that way as we walk you through the process. Gather a few tools before getting started:

You may also want someone to assist as you measure, especially in larger rooms. While it all depends on the shape of your house and the complexity of your floor plan, sometimes it’s a good idea to start this endeavor with a helping hand. When you are ready to get started, there are three steps to follow:
Measure the length and width of each room and hallway in your house.
Multiply the length and width of each room separately, which you can write down before your final calculations.
When you are done measuring and multiplying, add the area of each room together.

For example, pretend you live in a ranch home in the shape of a rectangle. The length of the house is 70 feet, and the width is 50. This means to calculate the square footage, you will multiply 70 by 50, resulting in a final calculation of 3,500 square feet. Of course, not every home is a perfect rectangle — making it more time-consuming to get accurate numbers. That’s why going room by room is often the most practical method. How many square feet is a 20×20 room?
The square footage of a room measuring 20 feet wide by 20 feet long is 400 square feet. To calculate this you simply multiply the width by the height. 20ft × 20ft = 400 sq ft.
Converting Square Footage to Yards
Sometimes you run into situations where things are measured in yards. (You “metric people” can feel free to roast us Americans in the comment section all you want, but it won’t change anything). All the math above works exactly the same. A driveway 50-yards long and 12-yards wide is 600-yards because 50 x 12 = 600.
A football field is 120 yards long by 160 feet wide if you include the end zones. When doing math with two different units of measurement (feet and yards in this case), you need to do a conversion. If we take 160 (feet) and divide it by 3, that tells us the width of the football field in yards.
160 ÷ 3 = 53.33 yards. Next, we can simply multiply 120 x 53.33. Do that, and you get ~6,400 square yards of football field. The approximation comes from the fact that 160 ÷ 3 is not really 53.33 yards but actually 53.333333… When estimating, getting close works perfectly because you typically want to add 10% on top anyway to cover waste.
What if your boss then changes his or her mind (as they are known to do)? They now say they want to know the football field in square feet. You can redo the math by multiplying 120 x 3 which gives you 360 feet. Then, take 360 and multiply it by 160 feet to get 57,600 square feet (incidentally, that’s about 1.32 acres).
How to calculate square footage?
It’s easy. Follow these steps.
Measure the length in feet, Measure the width in feet. Multiply the length figure by the width figure. This will be your total square footage for that portion of your project. Continue to repeat this for all parts of the space that will get the same tile. Add these together for your total square footage.
Measuring in inches works as well. Do the math the same way, then divide by 144 to get your total in square feet. When calculating square footage account for the entire space (i.e. under vanity/cabinets).
